Know Your Lemons Global Educator Course Launches

On World Cancer Day, the Know Your Lemons Foundation announced the launch of the Know Your Lemons global educator course. This innovative online course provides training to individuals and organizations on how to educate women in their local communities on how to explain breast cancer symptoms, screening where applicable, testing and teach risk factors.

“We are thrilled to be able to train breast health educators around the world to help women find breast cancer as early as possible,” says Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont, who has developed the program. “Today there are women who have symptoms of breast cancer and don’t know it. By training educators to teach symptoms, risk factors and ways to detect breast cancer through screening and other tests, we can help women get diagnosed earlier and save lives.”

The waitlist for the course includes 188 people representing 20 countries. The first cohort will be invited to the course today and will continue to train educators over the next few months. When all educators on the waitlist are trained, applicants estimate they will be able to cumulatively educate 144,000 women over the next year.

Once trained, educators will receive a course certification and tools for educating in their local communities using newly developed #knowyourlemons campaign materials. The Know Your Lemons app is also contributing to the efforts by expanding to the UK and will be integrated as part of the class experience.

The Know Your Lemons Foundation is a globally minded nonprofit dedicated to helping women find breast cancer as early as possible. It’s #knowyourlemons campaign has been recognized as a leader in global education for breast cancer, currently used in 90 countries and available in 21 languages. Recently named as an Associated Member of the United Nations Department of Global Communications, it is part of the UN’s goal to reduce deaths from cancer by a third by 2030.
